Book Club
Idea: That the space opened each week for circle share regarding the weeks learning in The Shamanic Workbook I: Cleansing, Discernment, and Ancestral Practices by Mary Shutan.

This book is based on 3 online courses I took from her about 10 years ago. Though I have not taken formal training with her nor agreed with everything she says, I experienced her as a powerful psychic with courses that are packed full of content from a variety of sources. I found the information to be practical and foundational to my spiritual practice.

If this interests you, you are most welcome to join each Friday night at 5:30 PM starting April 10th, 2026. There is about 3 months worth of content in this book. I imagine we would meet weekly and see how it goes.

The idea is that there are no teachers for the Book Club. We are simply gathering and sharing our experiences with what we are learning, maybe even practicing some techniques together. I do not imagine any of us will be able or even interested in making every session. Each week we would focus on the content scheduled for that week, however, some people may read ahead, others might take breaks. Ideally the crew eventually becomes comfortable enough with the space that others can host the session for the times I won't be home.

* If cost is a factor for you please reach out to me directly. There will be a book available at the home for anyone to use.
Address: 11834 SE Ash St. Portland OR 97216
Time: 5:30 PM (start around 6:00 PM) to about 7PM
Fridays starting April 10, 2026
If you don't want to do Book Club please know you are still most welcome to join around 7 PM where the weekly gathering to discuss "weird stuff" will occur.

There will be light snacks and beverages available. Bringing something to share is most welcome but not expected.

This is a Social Justice oriented space. Everyone is welcome to whatever perspectives they carry, however, if it is rooted in the oppression of another this is not the right space for you.

This is an animal friendly space. There are two cats and two dogs that reside here. One has a hard time with visitors and we just do our best to work with what we can around that.

No need to RSVP. Just come if you feel like it. The space will be open.
We're not necessarily having open invitation at this time. If there is someone you know that you think would really like to join and aligns with the values please connect with Abbey just to make sure its ok to bring them.

Finally, I tend to not use the term Shamanic due to the cultural appropriation undercurrents with the term. I use terms like "the old ways" or "traditional wisdom". Additionally Mary Shutan is a white woman (as am I). My hope is that during our conversations we are utilizing the practical knowledge offered in these books as a starting place while weaving in conversation about the cultural appropriation of spiritual practices and looking for avenues of our own ethical practice. This is where I know to start and am very open and excited for us to find other pathways and other practitioners if we continue to meet in this way.
